How to stiffen your tulle on your tutu’s and tutu dresses

There are many ways you can stiffen your tulle. Not everyone likes the feeling or look of stiff tulle. I know that it is the new wave of tulle's but here at Enchanted Bella Boutique, we try to make comfort a priority for us. A majority if not all of our items are soft and comfortable. We do not like our little darlings to feel uncomfortable. We know what it is like for a child to feel uncomfortable and irritable in what they wear. We try to avoid those issues because we want our little ones happy and smiling.
If you choose to stiffen your tulle there is a way you can do it using natural products rather than synthetic products. Take an equal part of sugar and water and put it into a sauce pan. The idea is to boil the water first and add the sugar. Allow the sugar to completely dissolve. Once this step is completed, allow the water to cool and pour the liquid into a spray bottle. These spray bottles you can get anywhere including your local 99 cents store or dollar tree stores. Take your tulle skirt or dress and hang it upside down from its base (the waist line where the tulle is wrapped either around the elastic band or in the case of the dress, it would be the waist line from where the tulle is attached to the crochet top.
Spray mist each layer of tulle separately. Make sure to leave the skirt hanging upside down overnight. In using this method and allowing the item to be left upside down overnight, by the morning, you will notice that your tulle has more volume. This natural use of sugar and water is a safe method and will not change the color of your tulle. This method has been around for a very long time and safe for your children because you are not using chemicals.
For those looking for a different approach, you can use either aerosol starch or aerosol hairspray to shape the tulle to your desired look. You will need to lightly spray the tulle and let it dry hanging upside down. Basically, it is the same method as above using a different product.
If you use the hairspray method, the recommended hairspray is one that has been on the market for many years. It is a hairspray called Aquanet. The hairspray should dry within an hour. Spray starch and fabric softeners are not really recommended because it can cause the tulle to change colors.
From my own research it seems although using the starch seems to be the most popular method to use and works for many people, it seems to be a long drawn out process that takes a lot of time with no guarantee that your tulle will not change color or be ruined.
No matter the method you use, when storing your tutu, it is best to store it upside down so it can remain full and fluffy. These are just ideas and methods you can follow, we are not responsible the end results as we are just providing you with information we have researched and found to be useful
